Washington to tender Campbell; trade in the works?

In their first major move since hiring Mike Shanahan as head coach, the Redskins have decided to offer quarterback Jason Campbell a contract, keeping him locked in as a restricted free agent this off-season, and setting the stage for a potential trade to a team in need of a new QB.

According to Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post, the tender has not yet been offered to Campbell, but is expected within the next few days, and will likely be high enough to force any team looking to acquire Campbell to give up a valuable pick in the second or third round of this year’s draft.

Campbell struggled immesely last season as the starter in Washington, but some feel that Shanahan would be a positive influence for him this year, and a trade involving him would force the team to start over with a rookie or inexperienced player at the position.

Teams likely to be interested in obtaining Campbell include St. Louis, Cleveland, Seattle, and Oakland.

Campbell did not "struggle mightily as the starter" last season. He put up the best numbers of his career despite being plowed into the turf often. Considering his o-line and all the drama he endured last season, Campbell played as well as anyone could expect.

Fair enough… his stats are impressive enough to warrant that opinion. My view on Campbell though came from watching him struggle against the better competition he faced throughout the season. Yes he put up nice numbers, but most of those came in the latter half of the season when the Skins yanked Zorn out of the playcalling mix. Against his division rivals in Dallas, Philly, and New York his combined stat line wasn’t good… 133-210, 6 TDs, 8 INTs, 3 FUM, 75.5 rating. Got to be better than that to win those games. Especially when the rest of your team is playing like crap. Thanks for the comment…

Jason Campbell is a good quarterback with the potential to be great. Let him have an offensive line like the rest of these "star" quarterbacks and some receivers that can catch the ball. Plus, let him have an offense that he has been in more then one year. C'mon…..give the guy a break. He put up good numbers despite having to run for his life after every snap.

Good bye to Jason if possible. His numbers were ok because of all the 2 yard completions he had on 3rd and long. As a leader he chose to have no voice and with him allowing Zorn to exploit him ,oh well!.Zorn got another job right away.Good lesson for Jason.
